Grow your own

Have you ever wanted to grow fruit and vegetables but thought you didn't have enough space? Many fruit and vegetables can be grown in containers and the seeds can be purchased along with your supermarket shopping, from online seed suppliers or even from Amazon.

I only have a small garden but this year I am growing peas, tomatoes, cucumber and peppers, all of which I have grown before and for the first time, I am trying my hand at radishes and runner beans. I really don't like runner beans but I have read that home grown ones taste different to shop bought ones and because I was given some seeds, I am growing them for the experience. All my vegetables are being grown in pots.

Think you would like to have a go at growing your own fruit and vegetables this summer too? Take a look at  the websites below to get started.
If you think you don't have enough sun in your garden to grow vegetables, the article below advises on vegetables which can be grown in partial shade.
And if you think vegetables take too long to grow, look at the articles below which detail vegetables that can be grown quickly and vegetables that can be re-grown from scraps.
If you decide to grow your own vegetables this year, let us know how you get on by sharing your photos on Facebook or send them by email. And if you grow fruit and vegetables already, please consider sharing your know how with us by writing a guide, telling us how and what you grow.

Finally, for those of you with an interest in history. Take a look at the Dig for Victory Campaign website.
2020 marks 75 years since the end of World War Two in Europe. The Dig for Victory website aims to educate people about the campaign which encouraged people to grow their own produce during world war two and to provide basic information, guidance and techniques for supplying a family with year round fruit and vegetables along with frugal recipes to make best use of those crops and a meagre ration.
